Cloth sailboats A beautiful contrast between the pure white sails and the vivid blue sky
Now well over 100 years old, the primary fishing method employed in Kasumigaura the cloth sailboat was first introduced to Kasumigaura City (formerly Saga Village) by native Ryohei Orimoto in 1880. Being an important part of the cultural heritage of Kasumigaura’s historic fishing industry, the cloth sailboats were brought back in 1971 as Kasumigaura sightseeing boats.

Sightseeing Cloth Sailboats This sightseeing attraction is in operation on Sundays from the end of July through the end of November. Get on one of the accompanying boats and view the billowing white sails of the cloth sailboats from various angles as they drift around Kasumigaura ? a great opportunity to take photos and also learn about the boats.

Birthplace of the Cloth Sailboat

Birthplace of the Cloth Sailboat In order to promote the development of Kasumigaura as a unique and appealing city, at the 17th Ayumi Matsuri Opening Ceremony on August 16, 2004, the “Birthplace of the Cloth Sailboat” proclamation was made. There is a Birthplace of the Cloth Sailboat Proclamation memorial in front of the Kasumigaura City Aquarium (in Ayumizaki Park).
